This quote was quite easy to identify: A winterly walk and a conversation, in which hardly a word is spoken. This can only be the scene when Almanzo sees Laura home from church after the first revival meeting in De Smet.
Laura didn’t know what to say. Almanzo didn’t talk much either.
Apart from that Ma surely would have had a lot to say but couldn’t while outside. And seemingly Pa thought that seeing his daughter home from church was nothing to speak of – at least when Almanzo did it.
After all the said “crunch of their feet on the snow-covered path” mark the first steps on a way, which eventually would lead Laura and Almanzo into marriage. A very special moment and a wonderful scene…
The book is Little Town on the Prairie, the chapter is “Schooltime begins again”
Quote #4: Little Town on the Prairie; Schooltime Begins Again; Almanzo is walking Laura home for the first time. They’ve just left a revival meeting and Laura is trying to think of something interesting to say as they walk.
Little Town on the Praire, Schooltime Begins Again. After the revival meeting Almanzo asks a surprised Laura if he may see her home. Laura can not think of anything to see and wishes Almanzo would say something.
Did you know that in ‘These happy golden years’ she writes ‘Again there was silence except for the squeaking of the sled runners and the clop-clop-clop of the horse’s feet on the hard snow’. I got excited for a second, thinking I’d opened to the right quote in the right book. I’m still looking. This one is hard!!

This is from the first time Almanzo walked Laura home (from a revival meeting at the church) — how wonderful =)
Yay!! I found it. It’s from Little Town on the Prairie, page 280, chapter Schooltime begins again. Almanzo is seeing Laura home for the first time after church and everyone is shocked. They’re discussing how it’s nicer this winter than last (and how could it not be?) and making awkward conversation. Ma doesn’t approve but Pa does – a point which means that eventually Laura becomes Ingalls Wilder, as opposed to just Ingalls.
