The quote is from On the Banks of Plum Creek (This was the easier part of today’s challenge). The chapter is “Prairie Winter”:

The family is spending their second winter in Wisconsin. Blizzard after blizzard is sweeping across the prairie, but inside the “wonderful house” it’s warm and cosy. While Mary works on her nine-patch quilt Laura begins to sew a bear’s-track quilt. It’s a difficult pattern and she works hard to make the seems meet Ma’s standards.

(I guess this must be the Dove-in-a-window-quilt from THGY. It’s mentioned among other things, which Laura brings into the marriage.
Once I saw a photo of Mary’s nine-patch quilt, but I forgot in which museum it’s on display. Does anybody know if Laura’s bear’s-track quilt survived, too?)

Quote #5: On the Banks of Plum Creek; Prairie Winter; Laura is describing the families winter activities. Mary is still working on her nine-patch quilt, and Laura has begun making a bears-track quilt. She is sewing bias seams which is what Ma is overseeing in this quote.

This is from the chapter ‘Prairie Winter’ in the book ‘On the Banks of Plum Creek’. It occurs on page 297 in my edition. Mary and Laura are both working on quilts – Mary a nine-patch block one and Laura a Bear’s Track quilt. Laura’s was harder to make then Mary’s due to the bias seams, so she kept having to resew them. And these quilts are part of what kept them occupied during the run of blizzards that happened – they were stuck in the house for much of the time and needed something to keep them busy.

This occurred on a day during a series of blizzards when the family was needing to remain inside their “wonderful” house.

On the Banks of Plum Creek, Prairie Winter, pg 296. Pa is back from working the harvests back East. This winter, unlike the previous mild ones, has lots of blizzards. This chapter describes how the family passed the days while the blizzards howled outside.
