“He let a last note quiver far, far away, until it dissolved in the moonlight. Everything was so beautiful that Laura wanted it to stay so forever.”

The quote is from Little House on the Prairie. The chapter is “Texas Longhorns”.
Sitting on the doorstep Pa was playing his fiddle in the evening. Laura would have liked this moment lasting longer but it was time for her to go to bed. When Pa had finished the last tune strange noises could be heard from far. Pa explained that this was a cattle herd on it’s way to Ford Dodge.
(Whew! Today’s quote was difficult, indeed. Actually I picked LHOTP only because it contains so many scenes with Pa playing his fiddle open-air. I thought it was just very likely that the quote was from this book. Not that I don’t like reading LHOTP but I’m glad the sought quote wasn’t from the last chapter… ;o)
Quote #6: Little House on the Prairie; Texas Longhorns; Laura and Pa are on the doorstep as Pa plays the fiddle with the moon shining over the prairie. Just after this quote, Pa tells Laura it’s bedtime, and then they hear cattle and cowboys in the distance. (Pa will help herd the cattle through the creek bottoms for some beef and a “milk” cow as payment later in the chapter.)
From ‘Little House on the Prairie’, page 162 at the start of the chapter ‘Texas Longhorns’. Pa and Laura are sitting on the front porch of the house, Pa is playing the fiddle and Laura is soaking up the experience. She wishes it could last forever but Pa says that little girls must go to bed. They hear the cattle being driven and the cowboys singing to them. The next day, Pa is going to go help the cowboys drive the cattle across the creek in exchange for a piece of beef – he comes home with the beef and a thin cow.
This quote has been DRIVING ME CRAZY!!! I have spent days looking for it and I just cannot find it. I give up =(
I am sure it is something easy…
FINALLY…but only with some help
LITTLE HOUSE ON THE PRAIRIE

This is the evening that Laura and Pa hear the cattle for the first time and realize that there is a cattle drive near their home in Kansas…Pa ends up getting some work and earning a cow, calf, and some beef for supper.
