I think I’ve been reading a lot of little house because these are getting easier.
This is from ‘Little House on the Prairie’, chapter ‘Going out’. They’ve left their little house, passed by the unfortunate couple who lost everything (I always wonder what happened to them) and are moving out. They’re stopped for the evening, getting ready to rest for a few hours. Laura and Mary are put to bed and then Pa and Ma rest together, Pa playing fiddle and Ma trying to control her emotions.

This quote is from Little House on the Prairie. The chapter is “Going out”, the last one of the book.

The family is on the move again, leaving the little house on the prairie and the new garden and plowed field behind. Pa was told that troops would be sent to drive the settlers out. So he decided to go before somebody would force him.

The quote is from the scene which describes the end of their first day of travelling: Like at the beginning of the book the family camp on the open prairie. After having supper by the camp-fire Pa would feed the horses and then he would take his fiddle out of it’s box and play Laura and Mary and Baby Carrie to sleep…

(Oh well, despite Pa’s optimism the mere thought of this chapter makes me sad…)

Quote 11: Little House on the Prairie; Going Out; The Ingalls are leaving Kansas as Pa has been told that the government is letting the Indians keep the land and he doesn’t want to be driven off it by soldiers. According to the passage in which this quote is found, they quickly readjust to life on the “road” and the book ends with them travelling upon it.

The Ingalls family has just left their home in Kansas to avoid being forced out by soldiers. Their first night under the stars reminds Laura of their life before they had settled in Kansas.
