I am a novice quilted as I just started piecing in Aug. 2009. During the past year I have pieced about 8 quilt tops of varying sizes. I thoroughly enjoy it. Of course I have a lovely sewing machine, handy dandy rulers of all sizes and an easy to use rotary cutter. Our dear Laura had none of these. Quilting is so much easier now and I have no desire to go back to the old ways.
I have a project going that is from Johanna Walker’s book. It is LHBW sampler and incorporates several of the blocks from the books. It is complicated. The bear paw patch and dove in the window are included. They use half square triangles that are tedious and dificult by machine let alone by hand. However the results are worth it.

They were two different patterns, the Dove in a Window is different to the pattern you show, which I know as ‘Geese in a Window’. I got the patterns from the Little House website.

Going to piece these by machine, I’m working on the cutting out plan now and hope to get a block of each done when I get some time.
