I always urge everyone to take the time to walk around a Laura homesite towns because you just can’t get a proper feel for them speeding through in a car.
One of the nifty things you can find walking around the town of Walnut Grove is Fond Memories Antique Shop. A recent comment on the post about the Walnut Grove schedule for the conference asked about the scrapbooking store and this is it.
Find them in the old creamery co-op building. The beautiful building was once where area farmers brought in their milk for processing. It’s located just across from the old Walnut Grove Tribune building that between the discovery of Walnut Grove’s Laura connection in the 1940s (with the arrival of Garth Williams who was working on his re-illustration of the series and Laura herself had told him that’s the town where it was set) and the opening of the museum in the early 1970s was the main stopping place for anybody looking for Laura’s Walnut Grove connection.
Fond Memories is part scrapbooking store and part antique store and I’ve been very pleased with my purchases from both halves. They have a lovely large craft/scrapbooking department. They have lots of unique items, including some exclusive Laura themed rubber stamps that I simply adore. In the antique half I once found a copy of Little Betty’s Cookbook AND Little Betty’s Sewing Book in incredible condition. (If anybody asks, I’ll tell you all about the marvelous Little Betty sometime.) I also found some great Hereford salt and pepper shakers a few years ago and just last year a marvelous old Lake Pepin postcard. They make it easy for you to follow what’s going on with them. And while you are all geared up for Walnut Grove, read again about wading in Plum Creek.

Sarah, thanks so much for this info. I’m the one that asked and if it’s possible to get any more excited about next week, this just may have done it. I can not wait for this trip. Thanks for all the additional info you’ve put out there for us.
How have I missed the scrapbooking store with Laura stamps in it? I know where I will be on Saturday. And Laura, ITA about being excited!
Just as well I’m leaving my husband behind. Laura, antiques AND scrapbooking? Priceless.
Carrie, I thought the same. If they add any more good things I may have a heart attack. Now just wondering how I’ll get all my “new treasures” home! Counting down the seconds now.
I’m wondering if I should mention the coupon the store provided for Walnut Grove field trip folks …. hmmmm….
Oh my Oh my!
