“There’s just this month, and February is a short month, and March will be spring.”-The Long Winter
In most places, spring has sprung. Warmer days filled with sunshine, tiny new buds peeking through the earth … and Little Town on the Prairie.
Who doesn’t connect this book with spring?
Yes, there’s something about Little Town on the Prairie. Not only is it the bright light at the end of The Long Winter tunnel, but in a recent unofficial survey Beyond Little House posted of favorite Little House books, Little Town on the Prairie topped the list.
In honor of spring and the hopeful end of this long winter, let’s do a read-along. The first chapter begins on April 5. We’ll start putting a schedule and assignments together, so email us at beyondlittlehouse at gmail dot com or comment if you want to do a specific chapter.
Come on! You know you have the time in between working in the garden and teaching the calf to drink.

Hi Laura,
Could I do one of the later chapters? Perhaps, “Schooltime Begins Again.”
If someone else has called it, I’m happy to do another. Feel free to give me one if that is easier.
Best,
Mel
It’s all yours, Melanie.
We’ll start a running list soon so that everyone knows which chapters are open and which are taken.
How does this work? I’m not sure I understand.
Tonia,
As we read along to Little Town on the Prairie, we ask for volunteers to take a chapter. We’re just looking for you to summarize your chapter and we will post it. Just like doing a book report in our old school days. Only a lot more fun!
If you’d like, pick a chapter that you’d like to do, comment back here and let us know so that we know it’s all yours. Email your post to us at beyondlittlehouse at gmail dot com.
As I said in an above comment we’ll start a running list so that everyone will know which chapters are taken and which are still open.
Hmm – I’ll take whatever you want/need, but can I have the chapter with Laura/Almanzo & the namecards, can I, can I, please, please???
You got it, Lauri – Name Cards Chapter 16.
Thank you!
Oh, what fun! It’s so hard to choose. May I do The School Board’s Visit?
Hi Laura,
Wonderful. Let me know when you need it buy and what the parameters are.
Thanks,
Mel
Annika,
Chapter 15 – The School Board’s Visit is all yours!
I would love to take the birthday party chapter please?
I’d love to take a chapter — any one you want to assign me.
This is my favorite of Laura’s books. I enjoyed reading The Long Winter readalong, and I’d love to participate in this one. I’ll happily take any chapter.
I sent an email, but I would love to do “The Month of Roses” if it is available. Otherwise, I am totally open.
You’re down for Chapter 6, Amanda!
Everyone who has emailed or commented to volunteer to take a chapter is on the list.
There are still chapters open!
Once I’ve written my post, where do I send it/how do I post it? Thanks
Chris,
Email your post to beyondlittlehouse at gmail dot com. Be sure to include your name.
I would love to take a chapter and am open to any one that is still available. Not sure I’m familiar with how to do it but I’m reading up on it and it sure sounds like a fun project.
And I Love Laura and the Little House books. Always have! Sharing them now with my younger girls.
Thanks, Cay! I gave you Chapter 6, The Month of Roses.
I’ll take Chapter 21! Yes, THAT Chapter.
How fun! I’m excited. I’ll take any chapter.
Tonia, you have Chapter 13, School Days.
