As a way for all of us to celebrate together, how about if we share our favorite Laura and Almanzo moment in the comments below?

From the books, it would have to be when she first “meets” him, while lost in the Big Slough with Carrie after going to town for Pa’s cutting blade. “He was still looking at her” makes my heart flutter every time. He was obviously smitten right away, as he twinkled his eyes at her. (The Long Winter, CH 2)

But I would also add, not from the books but from her other writings, this: “Almanzo steers. Of course I do the driving with my tongue.” (That may not be exact, as I don’t have it in front of me. Please correct if necessary.) I love this because it is a glimpse into their REAL relationship, which was evidently so much like all of ours. Do we not also “drive with our tongues” while our husbands merely steer? I surely do!

I think the Name Cards incident or maybe other times in the last two books, when the reader knows that Almanzo is interested in Laura, but she hasn’t realized it yet.

  3. I like when he comes back for Christmas between their engagement and their wedding, because he just couldn’t stand to be away from her any longer. *Sigh* How many of us have had long distance relationships and know that feeling so well?!

Barb, that’s my favorite too! It’s so romantic.

My favorite book moment is their engagement. It always makes my heart go pitty-pat. These Happy Golden Years was my first adult romance novel or should I say the first book that I read that had an adult romance as its theme.

My favorite Laura and Almanzo story however is when Laura cried and stomped until she go her way with the natural stone chimney on the RR house. It sounds so like me 🙂
