What liberties were taken with this incident?

Yes, I am curious as well what Deb means by this?

I stumbled on this site and have been rereading the books, as I do periodically. I was always intrigued by this incident because it is in such contrast to the rest of the stories in the book. I feel it was included to illustrate the stark realities of some of the other households of this time. I have no idea how fictionalized it was but I have no doubts that it is based on fact. But I would be interested in hearing more of the true story behind the incident.
I am also rereading “The Long Winter” as well. They are perfect things to be reading now when the weather outside is so cold and yet, my concept of cold weather doesn’t even begin to match what they endured.

Presumably Deb was referring to all the stuff has been brought up in discussions of the previous chapters — changes made to names and dates and relationships. Did Mrs. Bouchie really stand over her husband with a knife in the dark? Who knows. But it sure made for some exciting reading.

I don’t think so….Deb specifically says that many liberties were taken with “this particular incident”. So mere name/date changes that have already been discussed don’t really fit that comment.

I would love for Deb to come back and respond.

I hope Nansie won’t mind the “plug”. Go to http://www.pioneergirl.com for more historical information on the real story.
