Registrants can purchase a dorm lodging package when registering for the LauraPalooza conference. For those who prefer to stay in hotels (car necessary) a list of hotels is available below.
Should you choose a dorm or a hotel? Here is information to help you make that decision.
If You Stay in a Hotel…
Cars are a must if you are staying in a hotel. Hotels are not within normal walking distance (unless you’re an Ingalls walking a mile or more to school). We have blocks of rooms available at hotels in the area, and we will supply that list when registration begins.
Hotel guests may eat breakfast and dinner at the dining hall on campus (lunch will be provided in the conference fee) and can pay in cash or by credit card for each meal. Parking is also available adjacent to the conference location.
If You Stay in the Dorms…
The key to a successful stay in the dorms is knowing what to expect. A college dormitory is not a hotel. There are no hair dryers, irons, coat hangers, toiletries, or alarm clocks. Bathrooms are shared with an adjoining suite. All that is provided are simple linens (pillow, sheets, a blanket, a wash cloth and a towel), and you make your own bed. So besides personal items, if you need hangers or a clock or prefer your own pillow or sheets, be sure to bring them.
The biggest advantage to dorm dwelling is that it is much cheaper than hotel rates. The buildings are also new, with central air conditioning and wireless Internet access. The dorm is very conveniently located, within easy walking distance of the union —where the conference will take place—as well as the dining hall. And dorm dwellers typically enjoy the camaraderie and socialization of staying together in a group.
Each dorm dweller will be provided a personalized card to swipe for building access and for meals in the dining hall. Parking is also nearby.

These rates are valid until the date specified or until all of the conference-rate rooms have been reserved. Hotels are especially limited for Friday night, so make your reservation now, or consider staying the dorm, getting a room in De Smet, or staying in one of the communities outside of Brookings for Friday night.
