Laurapalooza Video Blog – Last Day Part 1

Laurapalooza Trip Diary – Last Day Part 1

Very sadly we start the last day of my Laurapalooza Trip. We take a quick look around Walnut Grove and then in Part 2 will head for home. The editing kind of clips off Sandra’s last word. She is saying that she (lucky girl) was heading on West to De Smet as did many of the Laurapalooza attendees. Sadly I wasn’t among them.

Laurapalooza Trip Diary – Walnut Grove Part 1

I made it to Walnut Grove in time to take the Step On Tour with the group with Rennae Krentz. It’s a different experience then visiting yourself and I urge everybody to try a step on guide one time anyway. Includes Pa’s church bell, actual walnut grove town is named for, and pageant grounds.

Two Laura Book Authors Offer Their Take on LauraPalooza

One of the best parts about LauraPalooza was the emphasis on writing. As in words, beautiful words and the people who create them. Two such writers, both of whom have Laura-related books coming out in the next few months, attended and have written wonderful posts about being among the Laurarati (a term I’m co-opting from one of the writers for her replacement of “bonnet head” — you’ll see in the link below).

Wendy McClure, author of the upcoming The Wilder Life and frequent guest poster on Beyond Little House, posted about the conference on her own blog. Erin Blakemore, whose The Heroine’s Bookshelf (pre-ordering available!) will be out this October, wrote a guest post, Five Things I Learned at LauraPalooza over at Book Club Girl.

Homesteader Is Coming. Really.

A Homesteader subscriber just wrote in asking this: “When will the latest edition of the Homesteader be mailed out?”

Excellent question. I’m glad you asked. What with the inadvertent convergence of moving cross country and LauraPalooza — both the pre-planning and post-organization — life has not advanced at normal speed. I’m still living among boxes and collecting loose information to put to use in planning the conference in 2012. Complicating things (in a good way) is the extra orders that have come in in light of the conference. Thus the Homesteader fulfillment department (aka me) is a little behind.

The good news? It’s ready to go. All subscribers can expect to receive the summer issue of the Homesteader early next week.

Video Diary – Sleepy Eye

Video Diary – Sleepy Eye

Well, our friend Barb Mayes Boustead was exactly right in her weather warning. It was miserably hot as you can unfortunately tell in the shot of me. I wanted to share anyway, so please excuse the slightly worse for wear look. I think it really was effecting me because the camera looks a little shakier too, but Sleepy Eye is kind of a cool place and worth a little refocusing.

Here’s a page that tells you about the Peanuts statues on parade, including shots of the artist decorated and metal figures (which sadly I haven’t made it back to see yet).

Here’s information on the Old Sleepy Eye Collectors Club complete with photos of more examples of the pottery under the Gallery Tab.

In light of the tremendous success of LauraPalooza 2010, plans are on for LauraPalooza 2012. We offered evaluations to everyone who attended, but we’d like to know specifics to make sure 2012 is as amazing as it can be.

Tell us on Facebook or in the comments here: What were the best parts of LauraPalooza 2010?
